Neel is Dutch by birth and Foothills Canadian by practice. She and her son, Luc, run a farm in the Rocky Mountain foothills near Millarville, Alberta. The countryside has its own sense of drama - with Pacific blown chinooks changing the looks and weather of hills and valleys in a few hours if not minutes. This sense of wonder and spectacle certainly can be seen in Neel's art.

Neel is really a rancher at heart, watching over a flock of artists and good souls in a simple , understated way. Neel also delights in music, playing viola with the Calgary Philharmonia as well as in various impromptu or longstanding quartets or other groupings. |
But she teaches art, not music. And her own art stretches across three media: oils, water colors and pastels with remarkably adept facility - although friends have said ...
Her subject matter also has a fairly diverse set of themes - the paintings and drawings on this website are only a small subset of her works. However, some consistent themes do re-appear, like members of Neel's ranch menagerie, some of the stark colors and tranquil beauties of the Foothills. And a witty sense of scene and portrait to be found, for example, in her TwiNight Moon series of paintings.
As at Neel's Place, there are many visual delights to be found among these drawings and paintings.
